CA0313 Fine Empire Centrepiece stamped 'Thomire a Paris'

A magnificent French late Empire Charles X gilt bronze ormolu and glass centrepiece or presentoir by Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843). Fruiting vine support foliate and berried garland base and circular plinth stamped 'Thomire a Paris". Later, probably 20th century, cut glass plate replacement with empire style gilt edge. Thomire was France's most famous bronzier patronised by Louis XVI and Napoleon as well as many foriegn monarchs and members of the aristocracy. In 1806 he became the first bronzier to be awarded a gold medal at the 'Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie'. in 1809 he was appointed 'ciseleur de l'Empire'. In 1823 Thomire won a gold medal for sculpture and continued to produce items regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon up until his death in 1843. His renown continues to the present day. Beautiful, refined, rare example, would make an impressive fruit bowl. France, circa 1825.
