CA0303 Fine French Erechtheion caryatid candelabrum by Barbedienne

Impressive, large scale, elegant single French 19th century eight branch classically inspired patinated and gilt bronze candelabra by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). The central figure is based on the caryatids that adorned the front of the Erechtheion, also known as the Temple of Athena Polias, at the entrance to the Acropolis in Athens. Rich brown patinated figure with eight complete candle cups with gilt bronze bobeches and dip trays. Presented on a superb, very attractive Rouge Giotte marble fluted pedestal column with a hexagonal slab base. Signed 'F.Barbedienne' with a 'Reduction Merchanique seal of Achille Collas'. Very fine example. France, circa 1870.
