CA0308 Grand Tour patinated bronze library bust of Hippocrates
Good quality example of a late 19th century Grand Tour French patinated bronze library bust of Hippocrates of Cos, the Greek physician and philosopher and one of the most outstanding figures in history, traditionally referred to as the 'Father of Medicine' and founder of the Hippocratic Oath. Well cast and chased with an even dark brown patination. Presented on a substantial marble block base. This example is most probably based on the marble version in the Louvre. French, circa 1870.
