CA0385 Large Bronze Bust of Napoleon after Houdon

Impressive, fine quality, large, 19th century patinated bronze library bust of Napoleon signed 'Houdon' for Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) and stamped V Lescurieux & M Fedide Paris. Classic bare headed 'herm form' composition. Dark even patination. The bust sits on a substantial Sienna marble block base with a glorious ormolu mount depicting a spread eagle in front of a victor's laurel and bountiful cornucopia. This in turn sits on a slab base with a classical bronze architrave. Imposing example rarely seen in bronze. Exceptional addition to any serious Napoleonic collection. France, circa 1870.
