CA0363 Grand Tour Column of Marcus Aurelius in Marmo Rosso marble

Rare Italian 19th century Grand Tour Marmo Rosso marble model of the Column of Marcus Aurelius after the original situated in the Piazza Colonna in Rome. Surmounted by a patinated bronze model of the Emperor the incised spiral relief on the central column portrays Marcus Aurelius's Danubian campaigns of 166-180AD. Stepped pedestal base with incised and painted dedication. A good quality early example with minimal losses to pedestal base. Italy, Rome, circa 1850.
