CA0395 Petite 18th century Grand Tour Dying Gaul

Interesting, very rare, small 18th century or earlier, Grand Tour, verdigree patinated cabinet bronze of the The Dying Gaul. Sometimes referred to as The Dying Galatian or The Dying Gladiator, the original is now on permanent display in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. Typical slightly simplistic casting with a green patination these early grand tour bronzes were sold in 18th century Rome by neoclassical founders such as Giacomo Zoffoli and Francesco Righetti. Mounted on what could be the original, lively, Rosso Carnino marble block base.
