CA0404 Rare pair allegorical Lesson to Amour bronzes after Louis-Simon Boizot
Rare pair of early 19th century French Empire gilt and patinated bronze Venus chastising Amour, sometimes referred to as 'Suppliant Amour' or 'Lesson to Amour' allegorical statues after the model by Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809) created for the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, porcelain factory. Original, unrestored well cast and chased examples. Matched pair, one has an arrow filled quiver and the other is one centimetre wider. Presented on later red marble and white marble block bases with gilt bronze mounts.
