CA0402 Fine French Empire clock depicting Homer in the Ruins of Troy
Lovely, attractive, large scale example of an early 19th century French Empire patinated and fire gilt bronze ormolu, red Rouge Griotte marble clock depicting the famous Greek poet Homer in the ruins of Troy, with a lyre and accompanied by a dog. Eight day silk suspension. Dial signed 'Ledure Bronzier à Paris' and 'Hemon Hr Horloger'. The bronzier Ledure is recorded as working in Paris on the Rue Neuve des Petits Champs in 1812 and the Rue Vivienne in 1820 and Claude Hemon on the Rue St-Martin between 1812-20. An identical example can be seen in P.Kjellberg "LA PENDULE FRANCAISE" p404 example C. published Paris, 1997. Superb condition. France, circa 1815.
