Extremely fine French Empire Hector and Andromache clock
An extremely fine Empire gilt bronze and Marbre Vert mantel clock depicting Hector and Andromache's final parting, attributed to Claude Galle. Hector, the Trojan prince, is shown ready for battle and holding his sword and shield which he wraps protectively around Andromache who leans across and gazes up toward Hector while holding their infant son. 8 day silk suspension movement, the dial housed in an octagonal drum signed 'Rocquet a Paris' for Jacques-Claude Rocquet who is recorded in Tardy's 'Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français' as working on the Rue Grenelle St-Honoré between 1800-1817. Beautiful early Directoire/Consulate period gilt hands. Heavy marble base with a central gilt bronze frieze portraying Hector urging Paris to leave Helen and join him in battle, sitting on fine stylised paw feet. Paris, circa 1805.
