Rare pair of plaques of Napoleon by Andrieu
Two early 19th century bronze uniface mounted medallions depicting the Emperor and King Napoleon Bonaparte. Both presented in matching ebonised wooden frames with glass fronts and suspension loops for display. The first portrait is a rare example of Napoleon looking to his right in his coronation robes and victory laurel style crown inscribed 'NAPOLEON EMPEREUR DES FRANCAIS ET ROI D'ITALIE' and the other with the more recognisable classically inspired portrait looking left by Andrieu with his victor's crown inscribed 'NAPOLEON EMP. ET ROI'. Both examples signed Andrieu. French, circa 1820.
