Rare Empire armorial cupid patinated and ormolu bronze encrier
Beautiful, large size early 19th century late French Empire period gilt ormolu and patinated bronze figural campaign or travelling encrier inkwell surmounted by Amore seated on a lictus bundle surrounded with victorious trophies of war. Thin walled box type construction with gilt bronze interior fitted with two inkwells, pounce pot, quill holders and accessories compartment. Ormolu bronze mount to the front with a beautiful stylised olive leaf architrave. Fine quality, unusual example of a larger than usual size, possibly once owned by an officer in the French army. France, circa 1820.
