CA0472 Rare Pair of Neo-Pompeian colza floor standing oil lamps
A very rare pair of French or Italian late 19th century patinated bronze floor standing Grand Tour Neo-Pompeian colza oil lamps in the manner of Ferdinand Barbedienne examples supplied to the Chateau de Saint-Cloud for Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie in 1858. Finely cast and chased Greek decoration with cylindrical oil reservoirs depicting a continuous classical procession of gods. Turned bamboo cast shaft, original chains, resting on a zoomorphic tripod base decorated with stylised foliage and hoof feet. Large impressive pair of floor lamps, beautiful rare examples. Later fitted for electricity, modern shades. Circa 1870.
