Italian Grand Tour Carved Black Bassalt Stone Classical Portrait Bust
Fascinating late 19th century Italian Grand Tour carved black Bassalt stone classical portrait bust of a man possibly a philosopher or poet, after the antique. The hair, beard and deep glabellar furrows at the top of his nose are very reminiscent of Roman copies of Greek original depictions of Plato. Set on a purpose built black patinated metal stand. An attractive and intriguing bust. Italy, circa 1890.
Head: H 20cm, on stand H 28cm
