CA0406 Grand Tour Capitoline Venus signed 'B. Boschetti Roma'

Important fine quality and rare 19th century Grand Tour patinated bronze reduction of the Capitoline Venus by Benedetto Boschetti. Beautiful example of one of the highlights of the Grand Tour. Discovered in the late 17th century, the original was purchased by Pope Benedict XIV in 1752 and presented to the Capitoline Museum. It was housed in a room known as the 'The Cabinet of Venus', where it remains to this day. Stamped 'B.Boschetti Roma' to the base, with original turning handle and presented on an associated faux red porphyry viewing base. Rome, circa 1860.
