CA0496 Rare pair of Alabaster statues of Rousseau and Voltaire
A very rare and unusual pair of 19th century French carved alabaster full length seated library statues of the highly influential 18th century titans of the Enlightenment, the philosophers Jean-Jacques Rousseau and (François-Marie Arouet) Voltaire. Beautifully detailed figures in resplendent 18th century costume seated on naturalistic square blocks which in turn sit on fluted classically designed carved alabaster stepped plinths. French, circa 1870.
