CA0492 Large Grand Tour black marble model of the Tomb of Scipio

A fine and rare large Nero Antico marble early 19th century Grand Tour model of the Tomb of Scipio, after the classical original now housed in the Vatican Museums in Rome. Beautifully carved marble with incised hand painted dedication to the front and a removable lid to expose a carved triple compartment inkwell and desk tidy. Sophisticated, restained and tasteful example presented on a green Verde Antico marble block base. Italy, circa 1820.
