Small rare pair of Serpentine marble Molossian Hounds
Attractive and rare pair of small late 19th century Grand Tour Italian green Serpentine marble 'Molossian Hounds' modelled after the antique pair of original Roman sculptures in the Belvedere Court of the Vatican Museum in Rome. A similar single example known as the Hound of Alcibiades' or the ‘Jennings Dog’ purchased by Henry Constantine Jennings in Rome in the 1750s can be seen in the British Museum. Old repairs.
