CA0561 Large Grand Tour Bronze of the Seated Hermes
Substantial late 19th century Neapolitan Grand Tour patinated bronze of the Seated Hermes, after the antique original found at the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum in 1758. Large size, fine quality cast. This statue was probably the most celebrated work of art discovered at Herculaneum and Pompeii in the 18th century and can still be seen in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. Seated on an associated Verde Antico marble plinth with gilt trim. Italy, circa 1880.
