CA0584 Beautiful pair of French neoclassical candlesticks of Venus and Diana
Interesting and rare pair of late 19th century French Grand Tour inspired neoclassical patinated and gilt bronze caryatid candlesticks featuring the goddesses Venus and Diana. Both the classical originals of the Venus de Milo and the Diane de Gabies statues are housed in the Louvre in Paris where the maker of these candlesticks obviously took his inspiration. Well modelled and cast with classically inspired decoration typically seen on fine candlesticks and candelabra of the Second Empire / Napoleon III period. French, circa 1880.
