CA0588 Rare Substantial French Empire Erato and Amore Clock
Fine and large example of an early 19th century French Empire period ormolu gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock depicting the classical Greek muse Erato the goddess of erotic poetry, playing the lyre accompanied by Amore the god of Love. The clock sits upon a large green Marbre Vert block base with a fine intricate mount to the front and beautifully cast gilt bronze paw feet of the type only seen on important clocks of the period. Unsigned dial with later or updated 8 day Brocot movement. France, circa 1810.
