Large Grand Tour bronze of the Medici Venus
Impressive large size, good quality Grand Tour patinated library bronze of the Medici Venus or 'Venus de' Medici' which resides in the Tribuna of the Uffizi in Florence along with other major works from the Medici collection. Superbly modelled and well cast, late 19th/early 20th century example with a good even patina. The bronze depicts the goddess in a momentary pose, as if surprised, in the act of emerging from the sea, to which the dolphin at her feet alludes. Italy, probably Florence, circa 1900.
