Grand Tour statues from Cellini's Perseus with the Head of Medusa
A rare set of 19th century Grand Tour patinated bronzes from the niches of the pedestal of the statue of Perseus wit the Head of Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571) in the Loggia dei Lanzi in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence. The four bronze figures represent the key characters from the story of Perseus – Jupiter, Mercury, Minerva and Danae. Italy, probably Florence, circa 1880.
