Grand Tour Siena relief plaque paperweight of Ptolemy II and Arsinio
Interesting and rare 19th century Grand Tour plaque, or more likely a paperweight, depicting Ptolemy II and Arsinio after the Hellenistic engraved gem known as the Gonzaga Cameo. Heavy item with no hanging hole on the reverse, carved from a block of Siena marble. It has also been suggested that this could depict the king and queen of the gods Zeus and Hera. Italy, circa 1880.
