French Empire Jason and the Golden Fleece mantel clock
Fine and large example of an early 19th Century French Empire period gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock depicting the classical Greek hero Jason taking the Golden Fleece from the tree. The slain hydra that guarded the fleece at Jason's feet. The clock sits upon a large marbre vert block base with beautifully cast gilt bronze paw feet. The bronze work is probably by Pierre-Francois Feuchere (1737-1823). An identical clock can de seen in the Chateau de Malmaison. Eight day silk suspension movement. France, circa 1810.
