Rare Empire Cupid Unveiling Psyche mantel clock
Superb and fine example of an early 19th Century French Empire period gilt bronze mantel clock depicting a scene from the story of Cupid and Psyche. This rare high quality clock depicts the happy ending with Cupid unveiling Psyche. Beautifully cast and chased with the original fire gilt finish. Dial signed 'Ledure Bronzier à Paris' and 'Hemon Horloger'. The bronzier, Ledure is recorded as working in Paris on the Rue Neuve des Petits Champs in 1812 and the Rue Vivienne in 1820 and Claude Hemon on the Rue St-Martin between 1812-20. France, circa 1815.
