Good pair of patinated bronze Sosibios vases
A good quality, late 19th Century patinated bronze pair of Sosibios Vases after the antique and now on permanet view in the Louvre in Paris. Beautiful classical design with each vase is of krater form with a bas-relief figural frieze decoration depicting Artemis and Hermes and a Bacchic procession. Elaborate twin scrolling volute handles with swans head terminals and ivy wreath cast flared neck. Raised on polished black slate square plinths etched in gold with patinated bronze paw feet. The Sosibios Vase is a Neo-Attic marble krater from the Helenistic period. French, circa 1880.
