Fine marble bust of Napoleon
Fine quality, early 19th Century Italian Carrara marble bust of Napoleon attributed to Raimondo Trentanove (1792-1832) after the model by Antoine-Denis Chaudet (1763-1810). Good size, classic composition, bare headed 'herm form', inscribed in black 'NAPOLEONE' in Italian. An attractive piece probably produced as a pro Napoleon, pro enlightenment italian commission. The original, created in 1799 was adopted in 1804 as the official portrait of Napoleon and was widely copied throughout the Empire. A similar example signed by Trentanove sold at Christies in 2020. Italian, circa 1820.
