Fine pair of French Empire ewers in the manner of Galle
Fine pair of French Empire gilt and patinated bronze ewers in the manner of Galle set upon beautiful deep red Rouge Giotte bases. Possibly by the famous bronzier Antoine-Andre Ravrio, supplier of bronzes to Galle who produced this style, and other variations of this pair of ewers, on identical bases. Dark patinated bronze in the form of a classical Greek wine ewer with ormolu accents including the pouring flute and handle which feature finely chisseled griffins, satyr heads and foliate embelishments. French, circa 1805.
For a similar ewer see Otto Meyer and Proschelle, 'Vergoldeter Bronzen Vol. 2', pp690.
