Fine pair of English Regency candlesticks

Very fine pair of English Regency gilt and patinated bronze Vestal Virgin caryatid candlesticks holding flaming oil lamps on beautiful white marble column bases. In ancient Rome, the Vestals or Vestal Virgins were priestesses of Vesta, goddess of the hearth and they cultivated the eternal sacred fire. Very detailed, well cast and chased candle cups beautifully designed with fine leaf decoration, beading and goat head handles. English, circa 1815.
