CA0697 Grand Tour bronze Borghese Gladiator
Good quality early to mid 19th Century Grand Tour deep brown patinated cabinet bronze of the Borghese Gladiator, after the Hellenistic original statue discovered by Cardinal Scipion Borghese in the early 17th Century. In 1808, the statue left Italy for the Louvre, following the purchase of the collection of Prince Camille Borghese by Napoleon. Attractive mid size bronze of the statue described as the perfect example of the male nude in motion. Probably French, circa 1840.
