Oak panel Relief of Romulus after David
An exceptional, rare and beautifully carved early 19th Century French oak panel depicting one of the founders of Rome, Romulus after Jaques-Louis David’s famous revolutionary work ‘The Intervention of the Sabine Women’ painted in 1799. Beautiful, rich oak panel with a striking, detailed relief of Romulus ready to strike with his spear. Magnificent piece of neoclassicism in an unusual medium. Probably a Grand Tour piece. France, circa 1820.
