CA0700 Rare French Consulate / Empire period Narcissus clock
A quite beautiful, extremely fine and sophisticated early 19th Century Consulate/French Empire period ormolu gilt and silver gilt bronze 'Narcissus' clock. Rare example surmounted by a semi nude figure of Narcissus peering into a silver shimmering fountain pond with swan spouts either side. Stunning detail, clean, bright and breathtaking interpretation of the classical myth. Eight day silk suspension movement, white enamel face signed 'Dautel L'aine Rue de Thionville a Paris' for Claude-Aime-Francois Dautel who is referenced in Tardy's 'Dictionnaire des Horlogers Francaise' as working out of the Rue de Thionville between 1800-1810. Sophisticated gilt bronze late 18th Century / early 19th Century style hands. France, circa 1805.
