Grand Tour Souvenir of The Capitoline Wolf
A good quality 19th Century Grand Tour patinated cabinet bronze of The Capitoline Wolf suckling Romulus and Remus. Well cast with good detail and a lovely deep green brown patina. Presented on a nicely figured Siena marble block base. The Capitoline Wolf has been the symbol of Rome since ancient times and one of the most recognisable icons of ancient mythology. The sculpture has been housed since 1471 in the Palazzo del Conservatori on the Capitoline Hill. Italy, Rome, circa 1870.
