Rare Large Scale French Napoleonic Battle Epee Sword
Unusual, large scale French Napoleonic Empire period Senior Officer battle épée. This is not a court sword but perhaps a French equivilant of the British 1796 Infantry Officers sword. Mounted with a large longer than usual straight, undecorated, heavy blade large enough to have been used as a Cuirassier Cavalry Officer sword. Original red spacer where the hilt and blade meet. Classic knight helmet pommel. The grip is beautifully carved checkered ebony reinforced at the corners with gilt bronze edges. The large symmetrical boat dish shaped gilt counterguard compliments the size of the blade. This is a fascinating and rare sword made for a tall strong individual that would have seen action throughout the Napoleonic period. France, circa 1800.
Length: 98cm, Blade: 82cm
