Grand Tour Temple of Hercules Victor on a red marble base
Nice example of a Grand Tour model of the Temple of Hercules Victor in the Piazza Bocca della Verita on the banks of the Tiber. Dark patinated bronze temple on a circular red serpentine marble base. The temple was a must see favourite of the Grand Tour. it was original thought to be a Temple of Vesta throughout the 19th Century because of it's round design and if often referrence as such. These models are believed to have been intended for use as inkwells because of the removable roof section. Rome, Italy, circa 1870.
