CA0750 Late 18th Century marble mantel clock
Late 18th/early 19th century white marble and gilt bronze ormolu French Directoire/Consulate period mantel clock surmounted by a carved classical seated female, very reminisent of paintings of Bathsheba at her bath by Rembrant and Gentileschi. Stepped carved marble base with fine quality applied lions head mount to the side, rings and continuous chain on beautifully cast toupie feet. Unsigned silvered clock face with a fine ormolu bezel. 8 day silk suspension movement. The chains on the feet are an enigma. Old repairs. France, circa 1800.
