Rare original pairing of Grand Tour bronzes of the Seated Hermes and Sleeping Faun
Very rare original pairing of early to mid 19th century Grand Tour Neapolitan patinated bronzes of the Seated Hermes and the Sleeping Faun after the antique originals both excavated in the garden of the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum in the 1750s and now on permanent display in the National Archeological Museum in Naples. Good large size, lovely patination, with some wear to the patination from years of handling, exposing the casting posts from the original lost wax casting. Lovely sense of age. Great examples of two of the most celebrated works of art discovered at Herculaneum and Pompeii during the 18th century. Naples, circa 1840.
