Highly decorative large scale classical bronze ewer after Clodion
A large, substantial and highly decorative, 19th century French Napoleon III patinated bronze model of a classical form ewer in the manner of Claude Michel Clodion (1738-1814). Surmounted by a grotesque rams head mask to the base of the fluted spreading neck of the spout. Entwined serpent handle with embossed mythological bacchanalian scenes and acanthus leaves to the tapering body of the ewer. Socle base on a square plinth. France, circa 1880.
