CA0789 Rare French Empire 'La Paix' mantel clock
Beautiful French Directoire/Consulate period ormolu gilt and patinated bronze 'La Paix' clock. Bellona, the sister of Mars sits astride a cannon its barrel lowered as a sign of peace. The elaborate frieze symbolising the age of love and peace replacing war. The bronze work on these clocks is often attributted to Pierre-Philippe Thomire. Eight day silk suspension movement, white enamel face with Breguet style moon hands. France, circa 1800.
