Large Grand Tour Terracotta Venus de Milo by Chuirazzi
Super late 19th Century Grand Tour large size terracotta model of the Venus de Milo by the Chuirazzi foundry in Naples. Stamped 'Chiurazzi Naples' this is possibly a working model for a bronze as it has been mounted, at the point of creation, on to a cast terracotta base of typical design for a bronze of this size. This model has a lovely feel of immediacy, an artists interpretation of this great, important and famous statue from antiquity. A rare survivor, some old repairs which only add to its beauty and history. The original of the Venus de Milo is now on permanent display in the Louvre in Paris. Naples, circa 1890.
