CA0825 Late 18thC Directoire Marble Mantel Clock by Gaspard Cachard
A fine late 18th Century white statuary marble and gilt bronze ormolu French Directoire period mantel clock by Gaspard Cachard surmounted by a carved classical river nymph seated on a waterfall. Stepped marble base with classical designs to the banding and inset with a gilt bronze ormolu relief panel featuring Putti at play. White enamel clock face signed 'Cachard Sucr De. Ch. Le Roi Rue St. Denis N.56'. Fine late 18th Century gilt bronze hands. 8 day silk suspension movement. Cachard succeeded the eminent Paris clockmaker Charles Le Roi sometime between 1792 and 1795 when he purchased the highly reputable firm. Cachard continued the business from this address, gaining a reputation as a fine clockmaker. France, circa 1795.
