CA0841 Rare Grand Tour Bronzes of the Venus of Capua and Narcissus
Rare 19th Century Grand Tour library bronze pairing of The Venus of Capua and Narcissus in a beautiful, well executed, verdigris 'archaeological' patinated bronze finish, after the antique. Presented on a pair of associated red serpentine socles. The original statues are now permanently exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. The Venus was discovered in 1750 in the Amphitheatre in Capua and Narcissus was found in Pompeii in 1862. Naples, circa 1880.
