Grand Tour Bronze Lateran Obelisk
19th Century Grand Tour patinated bronze reduction of the Lateran Obelisk in Rome. These obelisk models are rarely seen in bronze. All four faces etched with hieroglyphs with the correct dedication on the front face of the block base. The bronze stands on a Rosina Macchiato Nero base. Originally from the Temple of Amun in Karnak, the Lateran Obelisk was transported to Rome in the early 4th Century where it was placed in the Circus Maximus before being moved to its current position in the Piazza Giovanni in Latearno, it is the largest standing ancient Egyptian obelisk in the world. Second half of the 19th Century.
