CA0850 Rare French Empire Source of the River Seine Mantel Clock
Rare, early 19th Century French Empire period classically inspired patinated and gilt bronze ormolu mantel clock surmounted by a figure of the Gallo-Roman goddess of the springs at the source of the River Seine, Sequana. Designed with Sequana lying on a rocky outcrop holding an oar and an amphora from which the source of the river flows. Beautifully cast and chased mounts to the front, symbolic of the river. White enamel face with delicate decorative early 19th Century gilt bronze hands. Eight day silk suspension movement. France, circa 1810.
