CA0879 Fine Pair of Early 19th Century French Empire Candelabra
A fine and very rare pair of early 19th cntury late French Empire, probably Charles X period, patinated and gilt bronze ormolu three light figural candelabra. Patinated bronze bases decorated with quite superb gilt bronze Medusa head mounts and lyres. Surmounted by classical putti with belted kilts similar to Directoire 'au bon sauvage' adorned candlesticks. The figures hold aloft elaborate amphora with twist decorated twin branched candle holders supported by griffins. The central post topped with an elaborate splayed foliate bobeche and a further candle cup. I have only seen this central figure once before on a candlestick attributed to Thomire. Great quality, good size and heavy. France, circa 1820-1830.
