Grand Tour Alabaster Diana of Versailles
Rare, good quality late 19th century Grand Tour carved alabaster library sculpture of the Diana of Versailles on its original alabaster square base. The original was discovered in Italy, and was given by Pope Paul IV to Henry II of France in 1556 with a subtle but inescapable allusion to the king's mistress. It can now be seen in The Louvre in Paris. Slight losses. French, circa 1880.
