CA0952 Napoleonic bronze riding crop with interesting history
Interesting rare early 19th century patinated bronze riding crop with a grotesque characature of Napoleon. By repute this riding crop was bought on St Helena and was believed to have once belonged to Sir Hudson Lowe, Govenor of St Helena and jailer of Napoleon. This provenance cannot be verified and is simply an intriguing story but it would not be beyond the reputation of Sir Hudson Lowe who by all accounts treated Napoleon with disdain and disrespect. Circa 1820.
