CA0960 Important 19th Century Russian Icon
Important 19th Century Russian religious painted icon depicting the Archangel Michael displaying the shroud or mandylion face of Jesus to the saints Florus and Laurus, the Russian patrons of horses and the saints Modest and Blaise. The lower section of the icon depicts the 'horse guardians' herding horses. Beautifully executed portraits and highly detailed robes framed by a magnificently decorated and tooled border design. Single wooden board 'doska' with two nicely carved strutts or 'shponki' to the reverse. Russian circa 1850.
