Large Grand Tour Bronze of a Young Satyr with Wineskin
Fine and large 19th Century Grand Tour patinated bronze of a young Satyr or faun with a wineskin, after the antique original found at the House of the Centenary in Pompeii and very similar to the statue found at Herculaneum in the House of Stags. Often incorrectly described as Ganymede pouring wine for the gods. Well cast and finely chased. Casting fracture to one foot. Mounted on a stepped Siena marble base. Italian, circa 1890.
