CA0988 Mantel Clock Dedicated to Joseph Haydn
Very rare and unusual French Empire/Restauration gilt bronze ormolu mantel clock in tribute to the composser Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). Surmounted by two troubador style musicians either side of a monument in the form of lyre with two winged putti and a releif portrait of Hayden which contains the eight day two train silk suspension movement. The whole sits on an elaborate base with a geometric floor and a relief scene of a celebration of music. This in turn sits on four magnificent feet in the form of theatrical masks. France, Empire/Restoration period, circa 1830.
